Does rebuilding indexes improve query performance?
Asked 4 years ago
Our enterprise search platform has been slowing down and slowing down our users. I was wondering if I should rebuild the indexes to improve it again?

Rebuilding indexes can definitely increase your query performance and will definitely help you optimise query times on your enterprise search platform.
Rebuilding indexes deletes the old index and replaces this with a new index, not only will this optimise query times but will also eliminate fragmentation, reclaim storage space in addition to reordering the index rows.
Indexes provide essential pointers to your data and if these become fragmented then this can have an adverse impact on elapsed query times. Without regularly rebuilding indexes the performance of your enterprise search platform will decrease significantly and will impact your users.
