Can data silos be used to avoid inconsistent data?
Asked 3 years ago
Hello. I was wondering if there was a way to use data silos in our favor. I was thinking that siloed data would stay more consistent since the same information is being stored over and over. I'm hoping someone can let me know if I'm on the right track here. Can data silos ensure that data stays consistent? Is there even a way to use data silos in a positive way? Thanks in advance.

Let's think of an organisation as a unit and not the different departments in the organisation. These different departments are just for structure, division of labour and to make work done easier. The thing with data silos is that information lines are broken and data are isolated. This means that the data of a customer may be correct with the sales team, but the customer care representative team may not have updated their data of that customer. The effect of this is that there is an inconsistency in data between the sales team and the customer care representative team. Data silos cause inconsistency of data and don't prevent it.
