Hybrid project management is exactly what it says, a combination of the waterfall methodology and the Agile methodology.
The usual technique is to plan the high level project phases using the waterfall approach and then adopting the Agile methodology for the actual tasks (project phase work).
An organization may chose this approach because it is more customizable for any project, utilising the traditional manufacturing based waterfall methodology with the Agile elements primarily found in software development. This combination is compatible with teams and industries of all sizes and types.
Additionally it allows an organization to plan the project prior to work commencing whilst the development cycle can be delivered in stages (sprints)
