What are data silos used for?
Asked 4 years ago
Hi everyone. I would really appreciate if someone explained data silos to me. They seem to be a negative thing, but I don't understand why. What are data silos even used for? Are they even used for anything or do they just appear out of nowhere?

Data silos are isolated data. In big organisations that are structured into departments, data silos can occur. These organisations have their managers and have their different goals, and they store their information differently in their silos. Data silos occur when there isn't an efficient flow of data to another dependent that needs that data at that time. This means that data from different departments is isolated and isn't shared efficiently between departments in the company.
